Rika (48) Nate gave me Admiral title so I could feel equal to his Skipper title, though he is the one with the most sailing knowledge. I do like to run a tight ship and would love to have wall of schedules, itineraries, maps, and lists if my family allowed. I am an Early Childhood Educator with 9 years teaching experience in Title 1, Montessori, public and private schools. This year I finished teaching Preschool and hope to return to the classroom in the of fall of 2025. Though school is a happy place for me, my other place of joy is being outside preferably with my family and friends. Camping has always brought calm to my soul and sailing feels like luxury camping. We are exposed to the elements daily but still have a cozy cabin to rest. Nate and I have been married 24 years and met in high school. We both love a good challenge and want to keep dreaming big.

Nate (49) our Skipper is happiest when the sails are up and the engine is off. He is a techno geek but appreciates the old school ways of sailing. Nate was formerly a hydrogeologist for 20 years working for Sandia National Labs, Rio Tinto and Southwest Research before deciding he wanted more time with his family. He went back to school and became a certified science teacher. For the past five years he has been teaching high school physics in Oklahoma. Nate has a passion for open water swimming where he has crossed the Tampa bay and swum from Alcatraz to San Francisco annually for five years (minus 2020). Nate can fix most problems and if stumped he enjoys the process of problem solving.

Josephine (16) our lead deckhand and sometimes chef is our sassy, creative and smart teenager who is brave enough to sail with her parents during her junior year of high school. She is taking online coursework through the University of California Scout program and AP Physics with her Dad. Josephine is a true animal lover and insisted her dog come on our sailing adventure. She is an accomplished dressage rider. Her other passions lay in athletic training, art, and she will rarely turn down ice cream. Josephine is known for her quick wit and truth telling.

Queso (3) fills security duty and is often misrecognized as a dingo. He was bred in Oklahoma and was first named Boomer with his midwest family. However, he was not a good match with this family and he came to our home when he was three months old. Josephine and Queso did extensive training together with Oklahoma City trainer Jenny Knowles. Queso has a large array of commands and tricks listening almost exclusively to Josephine. When he is not counter surfing, laying watch on the bow or bark bossing people around, you will find him resting his eyes near to wherever Josephine is.

Addy (18) is part time crew when she is not at Cal Poly Humboldt where she is a freshman. Addy rows Division II crew for her college and plans to major in Environmental Engineering. She has already fallen in love with Northern California. When Addy is not rowing or studying, she can be found ocean swimming like her father and loves all things water. Addy excels in story telling, travel and being bossed around by Queso.
