Hopping Along the Exumas
On January 12 we anchored at Rudder Cut Cay which is owned by David Copperfield so one can only go ashore to the high tide mark. We enjoyed the cave which is so large you can dinghy in and the waters were so clear we could see shells on the ocean floor where we anchored.
A mermaid playing a statue is underwater near the cave but Josephine and I were unable to locate it. Queso keep watch of the anchorage from the bow.
The next day we sailed onto Boysie Cay and had the whole place to ourselves. The beach has a blow hole and tiny beach which allow Queso to let out some energy. I finally finished a journal that I started in 2011 and had lots of reading time. I recommend “My Old Man and the Sea” which alternates narratives between father and son who sail around Cape Horn.
Nate tried his hand at fishing (none caught) but Queso would become excited anytime the line was reeled out as you can see in this picture. He also whipped up some sourdough as finding sourdough in the Bahamas is difficult so his loaf was eaten quickly. Nate also replaced the anchor button covers which allowed for a satisfying crossing off an item on our project list.
As we approached Georgetown we anchored in Hooper’s Bay to visit a small grocery store and this larger island rewarded us with an actual cheese section where we got goat cheese. There was also a pizza shop next door. Another treat! We had to navigate the stairs pictured below to get to the road where we walked to the store. Next to the stairs we tied the dinghy to the holes present in the porous rock.
Meanwhile Addy was still staying with Auntie Jo and Uncle Kaj in Santa Cruz as she continued to keep training for the upcoming rowing race season. They spoiled her with yummy meals including this beach dinner.
