On February 18th, I spent the day continuing to clean and scrub for the arrival of my brother Ian and sister-in-law Karlyn who were flying into Miami from Colorado. They had never been aboard No Worries and we were excited to share our water home with them. As I was scrubbing the hatch above the bed, I pushed the window open which sent the paddle of the paddleboard overboard. The paddle had been resting on top of the hatch. There was no one else on board, so Queso watched me jump in with my clothes on to save the paddle. I didn’t have time to change into a bathing suit because the paddle was already floating away. Luckily, I did remember to put the swim ladder down before jumping in.
Nate and Josephine left early in the morning to get a rental car and go tryout a horse for sale in Wellington (1.5 hours from Miami). By chance Josephine’s trainer in Oklahoma got work of a dressage horse for sale and in current training with Josephine’s trainer’s trainer, Christian Garweg. Josephine has been waiting for her next horse since early 2024 after the passing of her beloved Vogue. A pre purchase vet check would have to be completed and a price agreed upon, but Josephine and both trainers were very pleased with the match up of horse and rider. Time would tell if Lenny had a future on the plains of Oklahoma. Below is a picture of Vogue and then me facetiming with Josephine during her trial ride with Lenny.
By late afternoon, Nate and Josephine had returned. Once we got word of the Wagners close proximity, Josephine sped out to the State Park dock to pick up passengers and luggage.
The next day Karlyn and I explored more the park trails and admired the lighthouse which is 200 years old! We then headed to our first self serve fuel dock which worked seamlessly.
We sailed past historic Stiltsville which is a series of huts raised out of the ocean on stilts. Many have been destroyed by storms but the remaining shacks are now part of Biscayne National Park. The shacks date back to the 1930s and were known for illegal alcohol and gambling.
The day ended anchoring near Elliot Key. The Wagners went for a swim, we read and enjoyed a sundowner on the bow. Dogs were not allowed in the National Park so we did not venture on land.
We continued sailing South and got a a bit of rain. Queso was happy to have company on deck and Ian took shifts at the helm. We soon discovered MANY buoys on our route and had to keep careful watch not to get our propellers caught up.
